3D Print my SWGEMU Character

Hello. Over on the SWGEMU forum, there are a couple threads about 3D printing characters and items from the game. Something nobody seems to be able to answer is this: how to print their character as it specifically appears in the Character Selection Screen. This opening screen shows your character equipped with whatever gear/clothing/items you've chosen it to wear at that moment. The idea here is to take that file and use it to print. However, nobody seems to know where that file is located. Would you guys have any ideas? Do you have any advice otherwise on 3D printing from the game? I'm still kinda' learning about 3D modelling and printing, so I'm afraid I'm still a bit noob-ish. Thanks in advance for your help!

I am not an expert and I am not 100% sure I am right (I think I am 60% sure I am wrong actually), but I don't think that there is a "file" for your character as you know it. Form what I do know is that the parts and pieces (Gear) that you are referring to are modular and loaded at run time when you load in your character or swap gear. With that there is a config file that contains all the gear you are wearing but will be akin to a txt file vs a 3d image you can print. There is away you can get all the pieces out of the game and create your Character as you will, and do a basic skeleton to make it poseable really easy (you can use Mixamo to get a skeleton and its free), then you can import the meshes into Blender and pose away.

This functionality is available on this very awesome website if you choose to dig around and learn a we bit.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out Mixamo and see what I can learn. While I'm on the subject, if I wanted to 3D print an already existing in-game file (like a house or a weapon) where do I find those in SWGEMU? Again, thank you and please forgive my ignorance.

Use this guide here to extract them:

https://www.modthegalaxy.com/index.php?threads/sie-3-7.792/

Then you need to convert them with this:

https://www.modthegalaxy.com/index.php?threads/3ds-max-import-export-scripts.152/

If you search I think there is a blender script somewhere that can do it in blender but I never used it so I am not sure how it works.
From heaven! I was just reading up on Blender and Mixamo to get the basic idea; seems really cool and hopefully not too steep a learning curve. I'm looking forward to experimenting with all of this. Thanks so much for the help. If anybody reading this has more advice or ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Hey hotsplice, I've actually 3d printed a few models from SWG. I have to say, if you're intending to use them in a miniaturized format the dimensions of the models are not conducive for quality printing. The small details like fingers, antennas, etc... are too fine and not posed in a way to print effectively.

With that said, I printed some of my Mon Cal characters, and albeit some of the details were jangled up... it definitely was SWG materialized and I love them. Play around with it!

What I'm interested in pulling out and printing are the houses, buildings and harvesters. There's a lot of people that play the Star Wars miniature wargames. Those models would make fantastic scenery for those games as they're "Star-Warsy" and feature the look of different planets. Another cool project: It would seem from the picture below that "NPC" cities are a single model? I'd love to print out a tiny Mos Eisley or Coronet for my desk.

NPC cities are not one model they are made up of individual models. There are files in SWG code that take what "Coronet" looks like and puts the individual models in place at run time. This screen shot is probably viewing that file in a viewer much like SIE or something similar.

Cool. Good to know thanks. Still awesome that all those individual buildings are up-for-grabs.
