So I don't know about the rest of you but the only thing I've been doing for the past week besides coursework is rewatching Game of Thrones in anticipation for season 3. It's now safe to say I cannot wait for this year to kick off. So many epic things to look forward to.

Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, a ton of really exciting films. I'm even looking forward to SyFy's new tv series "Defiance" but that's only because the Farscape writer and Walking Dead music guy are involved. :p

World War Z, Iron Man 3, This is the End, Kick-Ass 2, Ender's Game... Hell I'm even looking forward to The Great Gatsby which I hated back in school, but Leonardo DiCapiro is not only awesome, he also appears to have a talent for choosing the right film offers. (Has he ever done a bad film lol?)

So what is everyone else looking forward to this year?

I know right, this year is looking pretty hopeful when it comes to entertainment, tons of promising games too, listed some in the other thread. Both industries are finally reverting back to quality!

Lots of big names, but I sure hope most won't flop.

What am I looking forward? I haven't payed much attention to movie releases lately, but off the top of my head....

The Borgias, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, House of Cards (US reboot), Rush (F1 movie about Niki Lauda), World War Z, Kick-Ass 2, This is the End, Grand Theft Auto V, Rome II: Total War, BUNCH OF OTHER STUFF I FORGOT ABOUT! Oh yea and the War Thunder release, it's really such a great game in arcade even though it's unbalanced atm. Way more fun than your typical FPS.

The Great Gatsby for sure too, the trailer looked great. The guy really is in like only good movies, I do find him great too though, even if there are a lot of people who find him annoying. Plus he was one of the first to buy a Fisker Karma too, being bias ftw!

I also got such a fucking huge backlog of games and movies to watch, this year is gonna be so filled with fun stuff, lol.

Game of Thrones definitely! Also, many more months down the line is the last ever season of breaking bad which is going to be awweeesssoommmee!

Plus, in a week or two I will hopefully finally buy a half decent graphics card (nothing pricey, just so I can actually play a game made in the past few years! :D) Not sure what I'm going to play when I get that, will maybe resub to eve for a month just to see if I can get back into it with my old character, will also give SWTOR another go, now that it's free and I can play it on my own PC... any recommendations for awesome games would be appreciated, especially sci-fi games... which reminds me, want to play Deadspace too, man I'm behind!

That Defiance series sounds interesting and that is a great combo, loved Farscape and Bear Mccreary is awesome!

Also looking forward to Django Unchained but more than that is Star Trek: Into Darkness, Benedict Cumberbatch should be interesting plus, saw the Hobbit finally a couple of days ago in IMAX 3D with HFR and that was so cool, but the first ten mins of Star Trek got me really excited about it :D

Edit: Also, if anyone can recommend a graphics card between £30-£50 that would also be super cool!

30-50? That slims it down quite drastically, makes it really difficult! :p

From what I saw, Nvidia has 9800's and 3xx series in that range, both are pretty damn old. Or the extremely low end 5xx and 6xx cards.

What do you mean with 'games made in the past few years', examples?

Just as an example though, 560 GTX is 100-140ish and it's a pretty damn decent card. Probably the upper ranges near 100 or slightly above would give a lot more boom, but I really haven't followed the market in a while, waiting for the 7xx cards to upgrade.

Defiance sounds interesting but judging by the trailer and the fact that they're trying out the "tv series with an mmo" idea, the budget is looking very low which just doesn't work for shows with a sci-fi nature. That and I haven't seen SyFy produce anything decent in a very long time.

Honestly I lost all hope when they killed Stargate Atlantis off for no reason (easily one of the best sci-fi shows ever), then the mess that was SGU killed off sci-fi tv all together lol. (I mean really, have you seen any decent Sci-fi on tv since?)

I'd much rather someone just start Farscape back up. Where the hell is that web series?!

Either way I have quite a few shows to catch up on and 20+ anime series I've been sitting on for a few months now unable to watch because of school. Finally hand in my assignments tomorrow morning. The stress will be gone, then I can get to work on watching all this stuff, not to mention the dozen or so games I've got and yet to play. xD

And 30 - £50 graphics card? I didn't know those existed. It definitely wouldn't play swtor. Some Pong perhaps? :p

I managed to get SWTOR playing at 12 to 24FPS on an ATI Mobility X1400 with 1GB DDR RAM and a Intel Centrino Duo.

A $50 graphics card is more than adequate for Low to Medium graphical settings.

There are definitely cards, it just depends, that's why I asked, on what other stuff Davin wants to play. If he wants to keep up with current games, that slims it down by a lot, otherwise low settings on some cards in that range would kinda work for TOR probably, if it's mostly older games, then there are certain cards that'll do them with ease, etc.

My old system was well above that and I can tell you for a fact that wont be enough. Up until earlier this year I played SWTOR pretty hardcore on 3 different systems and even after they introduced their super low shader my oldest system still couldn't play it solidly above 30fps which is needed. I don't know when you last played the game but if you were getting 12 - 24 fps that will be 2fps on the fleet these days, 10 - 5 in warzones and 0 on ilum. :p You can half those numbers again if you play imperial.

My main gaming system which has yet to have any issues playing anything still struggles at times even with some settings lowered. The game is one of the most poorly optimized MMOs I've ever seen. Even out questing you can get some ridiculous drops. As for pretty much every other aspect of the game you can guarantee it won't cope, especially PVP. If you do manage to get some "playable" fps in a warzone I can guarantee with a few more "flashy" classes there, like 4 sorcs spamming lightning, that fps will drop significantly.

Even with SLI and the game installed on a flash drive my system will struggle severely in large fights or poorly optimized areas (which is a lot of them) and frankly it's very rare I see my fps at 60 in any location. They do of course generally stay above 30-40 except on the fleet but with two 580s I'd expect a lot higher. (It certainly would be in other games) It's known that performance varies massively from system to system but most if not all current and past players will tell you how poorly the game runs in general.

I'd also like to mention even with the "optimizations" and additional graphic settings they've added since launch the performance of the game usually gets worse after each patch. I had a few guildies who could tell you all about this. It got so bad for some of them that certain models etc would lag them so bad their clients would eventually crash. I never experienced anything that severe but each new version they put out always drops my average FPS in warzones. In patch 1.3 I got 100+ solid fps in warzones, the last time I played I was getting between 30 and 50.

As one last spout of input, if anyone plans on playing with the "very low" shaders you might as well not bother, with it being a "cinematic" game and all. The lowest settings on vanilla WoW looked better than Bioware's very low shaders and I'm serious about that lol...

Anywhoo... My point is don't expect SWTOR to be playable on ANY system. I'm sure there are dozens of more recent and well optimized games you could get running pretty well on a cheap card. Unfortunately SWTOR just isn't one of them. It wasn't at launch and it certainly isn't now.

GTX 550ti is alright, unsure how good the low price 600 series are.

Can't wait for:
http://www.micron.com/products/solid-state-storage/client-ssd#m500

getting the 980GB when it comes out, current expected retail is £450/$600

You upgrade your gear way too often Uli. :p

My SSD is only 120GB lol. :(
I actually really don't. My "main" pc is still my AMD 1090T X6, 8GB RAM, GTX 470, 1tb + 2tb hdds.

My 2nd most latest rig is a mini-itx build, i5 3570k, 16gb ram, gtx 680, 500gb + 1tb hdds

The 500GB + 1TB hdds are not too great in it so I want to get the 980GB SSD and move my 2TB hdd from my other pc into it and phase out this old PC and stick the other hdd in a NAS Drive

I don't want to see the prices on that 980GB.

My 480 died in the plane ride, had to buy a 670 now. I gotta say, I'm sort of glad it happened now, lol, the 670 is amazing. I would have rather upgraded to a 770 as I originally planed though, oh well.

30c in idle with 30% speed, at 80% speed I can keep the temps down that far under full load. Totally crazy and unthinkable on my 480.

But Cali has been cold, only 10-20c and my room stays pretty cool. Curious how the temps will be in the Summer, lol.

Is there anything really a 670 can't handle? Probably better + cheaper for the 670 over waiting for the 700 series.

It's just a fantastic card. You're right though, probably wouldn't have mattered.

I just hope I can ultra Rome II later this year on 2560x1600, that's my real 'problem'.

The end of The Walking Dead season 3, omg, never thought I would actually feel bad for the death of youknowwho aka "useless", "blonde", "almost killed Daryl because she was stupid"...
RIP good guy Doctor Milton.

And now GoT, I feel so spoiled!
