Possibly - what would you want it for?

That is an easy question to answer..to modify/adapt it in any way one wants for whatever project they see fit in the same way the Ryzom Core/NeL framework is open source and provides the full client build pipeline to all.

Not to mention having people be able to contribute to and continue the effort in the event that you get sick of working on it (not an uncommon occurance in the world of coding), and lets people open work on client support you might not be interested in (like a native Linux or a Mac port, or making it run well under WINE, or making mobile clients, etc.)

Thats a lot for one person to undertake, if they even wanted to, yet Ryzom Core is an example of how having this all open source has provided native support for Linux and Mac clients for the commercial version of the game, and the quality and capabilities of the content development tools for the NeL framework have advanced greatly due to being open sourced as well.
I'm aware of the advantages of having more than one person working on a project... I was just curious what Davin in particular would want it for given that he hasn't been active for years now (at least not visibly). Generally though, if this is to become more than a graphical tech demo then absolutely I'd need to get others involved, whether it be open source or otherwise.

Nice work. Hopefully it will run a lot better than our current client.

BIG step from environment viewer to fully functioning game client. :) synter can do it if anyone can tho. Still, fantastic screen caps and I can't wait to use this along side the world builder. *evil grin*

This is looking fantastic!

I'm really interested in this, as having a newer client in general is great, but I'm also intrigued by the prospect of having specialized clients: like for instance a planet watcher that has a top down view (with a slight angle) specifically designed for administrators to watch over the server and/or to help with events.

Imagine dragging/dropping NPCs onto a location you zoom into to "stage" an event all without having to log into the game client.

It can do certain things more efficiently than was possible when SWG was released, overall it'll be more demanding than the proper client though due to the lighting effects, draw distances, flora density and so on.

Thanks - not even close to releasing a demo at this point!

Thanks - honestly I have no idea if this can become a reality or not, I was just posting it for fun really.

Certainly I have the framework in place to quite quickly put together such tools, can't say if it will happen though it depends how much time I get.

A little update with flora (good news for people waiting on new satellite maps), improved grass etc. It will all look a lot better once I get anti-aliasing/transparency working properly, this is quite a tricky job with deferred rendering.

Well color me interested if you ever decide to release the source for it :)

Otherwise I hope you keep interest and eventually find time. You're amazing as always sir, and you could do some interesting things with this!

Awesome work! Try to get some alpha stage with working bug report tool for crashes. So we can test it out or something.

This exact thing can be done server side through a web applet.
There is currently in development on the Everquest emu for such a thing.
No client needed.

Only meant to say that it is possible without needing to include it into a client.

Hey there, I just ran across this thread and I'd like to offer you my services. SWG is an all time fav game of mine. The community to keep the game going is really cool. I'm not sure if you are open to it but if you are - I'm a c++ and c# programmer with some game dev experience. If you need anything at all, large or small, a tool, a sub module, anything, I will write some code for you to help this project along.

Welcome aboard! One major way you can contribute to the SWG Community as a skilled developer is participating in the development of SWGEmu's Core3. It's the Pre-CU Server that powers most of the online communities today. You can find more information about that here.

If you happen to only be interested in Client Side work, one of our Administrators might have a special project they don't mind sharing, but typically most users find a passion or tool/project they'd like to work on and just get going. We're around to help along the way and happy to answer any questions! :)

damn I want this to happen so badly!
[hr]
Could you provide high resolution renders to use as wallpapers? preferably with high levels of anti-aliasing if possible :)
