Experience Star Wars Galaxies Roleplay unlike ever before!

We've launched!

Introducing Dark Rebellion, a project that has been five years in the making. Dark Rebellion is unlike other SWGEmu Roleplaying adventures, with the server code being converted to support elements of roleplay not unlike Tabletop Simulator, or Roll20. Dark Rebellion is solely dedicated to roleplaying adventures, utilizing every asset and function of SWG to set the stage and support fascinating stories, interesting characters, and daring battles.

Dark Rebellion offers roleplay opportunities that only come about when the server is solely dedicated to it.

With Dungeon Master tools, we can produce new planets, cities, or scenes quickly to explore a new story that would otherwise be hindered by the need to support standard gameplay. Our new tools offer many new roles as well, for those who enjoy roleplaying in this great game.

Features

  • D20 styled turn based combat for immersive roleplaying encounters. Utilizes the game's skill and HAM system to track skill points and health.
  • Combat animations integrated into dice rolls and roleplaying combat. No more standing around emoting that you've shot your gun!
  • DM tools allow Dungeon Masters to bring the world to life through NPC interaction, scene creation, and more.
  • Opportunities to create the character you've always wanted, with free clothing (that can be recolored on the fly), additional species (thanks to EiF), multiple character slots, and more.
  • Custom planets and zones allow us to utilize everything the game has to offer for roleplay. Ever wanted to roleplay on the bridge of a Star Destroyer? Rapidly escape the Corellian Corvette? Uncover a mystery on new and dangerous planets? We also feature POB ships as structures (though we do not have JTL, of course.)
  • No grind, no maintenance, just creative freedom. Ever wanted to build the perfect roleplaying interior with everything at your disposal? Want to create a city or a base without having to grind the credits to keep it standing? We love to invite decorators who have always wanted to stretch their creative muscle. We have ways of saving your work as well, so your decorations will never be lost!
  • Utinni integration: Utilize gizmos when decorating, or plugins to help perform other feats as the server works to fully integrate Utinni wherever possible.
  • Custom launcher: We are utilizing a custom launcher that helps ensure your client is quickly updated without hassle.
The Story

Dark Rebellion takes place in the original Expanded Universe canon, immediately after Return of the Jedi, in an Infinities-style alternate "What-If" timeline. In this new timeline, the team of Rebels on Endor were unsuccessful in taking down the shield generator protecting the Death Star II. As a result, the Death Star destroyed the sanctuary moon, killing everyone on the surface. Trapped between a fully operational battle station and an Imperial armada, the Rebel fleet was destroyed. In one fell swoop, the Alliance's leaders and heroes were eliminated, ending the Rebellion.

Unfortunately for the Empire, however, it was a pyrrhic victory. Shortly after reducing the Rebel fleet to atoms, the Death Star II turned on the Imperial fleet, destroying the Super Star Destroyer Executor before jumping to lightspeed. Unable to contact the station or find its current location, the Empire stands motionless as its Emperor has gone AWOL. Ambitious individuals find themselves steeling their hand incase Palpatine returns with the most powerful weapon in the galaxy at his control, but some are beginning to wonder if Palpatine ever truly will return.

While the Rebellion is destroyed, and its hope whisked away, there are still many who believe the Empire should be toppled. Unable to agree on any one dogma, the remaining forces of the Alliance have splintered in a number of groups, ranging from a hardened militia, a force of vigilantes, a political movement to turn the Empire back into the Republic, and a group of veterans who simply want revenge.

Who will you be in this dark new future for the galaxy? Will you bring change to the Empire? Restore the Alliance? Form a new Jedi Order? Or will you simply follow the credits?

Development

Dark Rebellion is currently looking for anyone who is interested in decorating, world design, and even more Dungeon Masters as well as players. We're also happy to invite anyone who can create new custom content. It is our policy that any content you create for Dark Rebellion is something you can and should take with you to other servers you might be involved with.

Our development comes hand in hand with roleplay. Starting off, we'll be focusing on a single world with it's own chapter and plot to help us get our bearings, fully master the tools at our disposal, and create new areas to expand the plot of the roleplay further. As of this writing, we have great progress on our first hub world, Tatooine, as we seek to replace all planets and cities in SWG with ones designed with roleplay and immersion in mind.

Join us today!

We hope Dark Rebellion will realize the dreams of any SWG Roleplayer. Having roleplayed on live, and on Basilisk, it has been a wondrous opportunity with what the game provided in its vanilla state. However, we are always held back by the requirements of play. Dark Rebellion is offered to you to see how far we can take roleplay. It's story is designed to give you a new and different galaxy to explore with characters you might've had since launch in 2003. As SWGEmu nears 1.0, here's to taking the game and exploring its limitations.

Wow, I really like this idea! A traditional tabletop hybrid experience would work very well in SWG, and having a more limited scope on scenes you could have a more robust galaxy with more planets if you didn't have to incorporate all the open world aspects (resources, missions, etc.). I can't wait to see more information on this and how it will play/run. I'd love to learn how to use the Utinni plugin and help decorate scenery as well!

You're exactly right. Without having to cater to the gameplay mechanics of SWG, we can create much more natural and detailed worlds and environments. More planets can be added for more scenes when we only have to ensure fidelity of that planet's visuals without having to program aspects like quests, mobs, etc. Because of this, Dark Rebellion won't use any of the pre-existing planets that come with SWG. Instead, each one will be recreated to best accommodate roleplay. We'll have two types of worlds: Hub worlds, which are huge and exist to cater to gathering roleplayers, and scene worlds which are smaller and accommodate fringe-case storytelling. For example, we could include Dagobah as a scene world. That said, if anyone ends up wanting to create their own base or faction, a world can be provided if one of the existing ones don't suffice.

As for decorating, we're going to need quite a few decorators to help cover the immense amount of interiors we'll have as a result of these new planets. But, to ensure that no work is lost, and to re-use work in other places, I've developed a saving/loading system for items in a house so decorations can be easily copied and stored. This system will soon cover exterior areas as well.

This is a pretty neat concept! Will there still be an in game resource, crafting, economy or are these systems distilled into something RP friendly? Also if you have irregular playing hours, how would that impact your experience? Can you still level up or do you need to attend official DM hosted events?

My rp knowledge is pretty rudimentary haha, limited to a few moments on the Starsider server back on live.

At the time of launch, we won't have any form of crafting or economy, as these are elements that typically go along with a standard game than a roleplaying setting. Having some form of crafting is definitely something planned, but an economy will likely be more suited for something that is described through story than an actual simulation (or direct participation by players.) With this freedom, we can have galactic elements like politics and economy be something that can evolve on its own by design, while players interact with it through roleplay and DM-led missions. I could go into further detail, but the truth is that with the freedom of writing, this element of play could go wildly anywhere and is unpredictable.

As for leveling up, there is no method to level up without some form of DM involvement. This means that there is no grinding, and that your progression will go along with story. That said, it won't be as exclusive as it sounds. Any DM mission at any time can grant experience for performing skill checks. You won't have to wait a week or two to catch an event just to get experience, as smaller events will take place all the time. Additionally, there will be systems in place to reward experience for roleplay that happens without a DM; i.e. if an important roleplay between players occurs without DM supervision, one can write a brief synopsis of the roleplay on our Discord, and participants will gain experience for their involvement. Dark Rebellion seeks to support DM-led roleplay, and player-led roleplay.

Roleplayers of any skill level, from completely novice to a master of the craft are welcome to join Dark Rebellion. We support roleplayers who are most comfortable in a cantina, to roleplayers who want to take control of the Galaxy. I'll be here to help as best I can!

Should jump in and meet my simple-minded trandoshan I've made. He's all about scorekeeping and hunting. Would do well with a fast talking bard... errr smuggler/musician. Or maybe he could earn the trust of a guarded heiress escaping her father's matchmaking plans. Or even brawl with an angry wookiee? Looking forward to it!

Update: I've been playing here and running missions for weeks. It has been a lot of fun. Every time we run a mission, it's a fresh experience with something new Borrie has cooked up. I've hunted small game, stranded spacers that produce spice, and cultists so far on my trandoshan ranger. Also have played a sword wielding character and been allowed to angrily interrogate and kill corrupt security forces. I've been having a blast getting on and seeing what the next mission was about. 5/5 stars for sure

An update! We've begun regular DM activity and have several new planets implemented, with a focus on a complete rebuild of Tatooine for SWG. If you've ever had thoughts of trying out roleplay in SWG, or are a veteran of roleplay in SWG; we offer progression through roleplay. No grind, no maintenance, no hassle. Play the character you have always wanted to play!
