Thinking here... please add your thoughts.

As we add more planets by contributors, the Travel Map and Visualization might getting crowded.  (Talking about purchasing a ticket while looking at the map)

For ease of use and some  sense of game play, what if we had a "planet" or space station to travel to, then you could travel to the additional planets contributors create?

It might help visually with the travel map we have to make it easier to edit in a new planet.

Technically, I think we can travel to a new planet from a new planet.  What I am not sure of is if a different travel map when buying the ticket can be used.... are we stuck with one master map?

Thanks for reading, love to see more discussion.

I believe your travel station idea should be easily implemented. I had a few thoughts on this topic for consideration as well.

1). there's drop down menus when you buy the tickets for the plant. It isnt as nice looking etc. but it does work. I used this a few times when I was playing around trying to follow guides on adding planets.

2). It should also be really easy to replace that map. Perhaps a new, more organized map would work better?

3). lastly, and I have no idea how complex this would be or if it is even doable, a 2-layered map system where you first click a sector then click a planet in the individual sector's map (TOR style)

I have nothing against your travel station idea. Just throwing in some input for discussion.

I had the same thought, so I made these about nine months ago and has made a world of difference in my travel-enjoyment. I made this map to be canonically accurate and make the galaxy feel more like a galaxy. Plenty of room here for more planets.

Only issue with the big map is it just makes the travel list too long. What we need is a double screened so you can swap between galaxy maps

Could make it lore like "inner" and "outter" rims, ect. (if you were using multiple maps)

hello and great stuff!

So....I was thinking an instanced station and from there you can go-back or now have a selection of new planets

adding a bit of epic scale of inner and outer rim planets

A simple...not so simple way of doing this.

create a new planet, and limit to play area to the interior of a starport, or single city type area. Name the planet whatever you want, and for it's appearance on the map put it in the center and instead of displaying a planet have it display one of the space station meshes. You can just about any mesh display on the travel map. Then of course have this new planet's SP connect to every other planet.

A hack job for sure, but should be pretty painless to implement w/out all the other planetary stuff having to be implemented.

Sorry one more thought... make the sky/ground texture look like an asteroid... like "Kessel" or something so it feels like you're in space while on this central planet.

Update : I created this concept of a space station by making a new planet. I will release it in previews after some polishing up. Included are the non-instanced corvettes for addition creativity for screenplays....
