Oh no that's quite alright. What I would really like to learn is maybe the beginning half of this guide i.e. what file to start with (in this case the planet snapshot), the location through the file tree to where to locate the file, what editor or tool to use to open it. I did open a snapshot a friend sent me for tatooine, holy crap thats a lot of stuff. Your guide mentions deleting it all except for one item, such as a starport or something. I have no idea which file that is, I'd rather not mess something up while playing around, new hobby and all....Just maybe a template style guide from the beginning. I also wouldn't mind seeing one in the thread I started where I'd like to modify ingame paintings too. Thanks for the replies period though

Here are some 4k maps of an unaltered Taanab you can play with: download.

I'd be interested to see what people can come up with using this base and photoshop. That said I do feel it's a waste of time for now since this version of Taanab is very incomplete and low quality. A small group of people, including me, have been working on a proper version for a long time now (to be revealed in the fairly near future, here it is back in 2008 though when things were just getting started). So rather than rehashing the basics which were done many years ago, what would be really cool is to see people actually making assets for the planet - creatures, POIs, housing and so on.
Outstanding, thanks! One vision I have for an SWG future is one in which the galaxy feels endless... in space and on ground, and in variety... even just using the 14.1 assets, there is so much expansion possible. I just want to see these new worlds explored and enjoyed on a large scale, come to life.

I am back from vacation and back in front of my computer tomorrow, have my stack of old EU books ready... I have learned more about scripting and the SWG file structure in the past few weeks than in years.. (lost my job= free time :p) Taanab will come to life...

Look at Timbabs Jawa toolbox, in the downloads section. Open it up and in the menu theres an "other" dropdown. Go there and you'll see the .ws editor. That's what peeps are talking about. Extract a snapshot file and open it using that. You'll see a shed load of stuff in a stock swg file. Look at the entries and try to find any entry in the actual game. IE open the yavin4.ws, pick any entry in the /buildings/other section, highlight it and in the details on the right hand side will be the placement details. Go there in game and see how the actual entry in the file relates to the building you see in game.

But it's outdated. I'd only use it for the Snapshots, for anything else I'd use:

Be sure to grab all the templates, too.

P.S. There is a problem with the .WS files at the moment, until I release a ID rearranger/fixer, that creates conflicts for object that contain cells, such as buildings, if an object exists with the same ID in any of the other .WS files. So for example, if you have a building on Tat with the ID of 11 and a building on Yavin with the ID of 11, it'll create problems. Easy enough to fix, but haven't had the time yet.

I have found, to overcome this issue, delete everything in the file and save it with the planet name your going to use.

Then start populating your new planet with an empty file. I haven't had any conflicts doing it this way, but it is a bit random. But you definately need to remove all of the existing object ID's.

I want to be able to zone in to my new planet snapshot. I don't want to mess anything up until I learn how to do this more proficiently. How do I load this .ws file up step by step so I can load into it to start building?

Okay, I'll post this here. I know some of you are mad busy to be hovering in chat. Oh and thanks a million for all of your help by the way you guys are awesome...With that said...everything with my new planet is coming along smoothly so far. The one hurdle I'd like to fix before I move on is on-planet travel not working. I have 2 starports and 3 shuttles. The 2 starports work fine to get me off planet to Corellia and back, however, the shuttles will not allow me to travel around the planet. When I click on any of the ticket terminals a map of Corellia is displayed only, and not my planet's map with locations to go to. My planet_manager has been updated and confirmed correct. If any of you know the problem I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks

You'll have to look at:

/ui/ui_planet_map.inc starport term map.
/ui/ticketpurchase.inc

Which Lasko hasn't finished the guide for yet. Basically, XML format files that handle the visual UI of client things. Since your planet isn't in it, you'll need to update it accordingly, take a look at how it's handled for previous planets.

I haven't finished the guide for these two files, because my descriptions of how they work seem to make them look more complicated than they actually are.

As Timbab said.... Study it and see what the file is actually doing then copy in your new stuff. But........

In simple terms then for now....

/ui/ui_planet_map.inc

This file (as the name suggests) sets the planet map and cities when you click a planet or select one from the drop down. Study this file and learn how it is made. Search for one planet and see how the section for adding the maps is written (it starts around line 610 if your using notepad++). Then just copy and paste in the details for your new planet and the location of it's new map.

/ui/ticketpurchase.inc

This file may seem a little confusing but. It is just setting the parameters for the clickable planet buttons and names on the maps. Also it sets the yellow lines on the map between planets. Again, my best advise is to study the file, see how its working and break it down into sections and follow the format. Best way is to search in notepad++ for the word Endor. and see which sections it is in then, again cut n paste, changing details for your new planet.

Thanks guys I thought I made it work last night but I must have missed something because the map came out all jumbled but I'll keep plugging away at it
[hr]
In the ui_ticketpurchase.inc how do I come up with the location numbers in the runner

I managed to make the runner which I assume is the line between planets to show, my planet was hovering underneath Dantooine so I assume I needed to change the location numbers a little more so I'll keep working, however, I still cannot get the map on the terminal to populate for the planet not sure what I'm doing wrong there

Ok I have the planet working on the Galaxy Map, runner, planet icon, and text. What I don't have working is the Planet Map
