The main issue with taanab is not what the TRN has, its what it is missing, and it is missing quite a lot of things to make it complete.

Planets use many files. (= .trn for terrain, .ws for snapshot, datatables/environment/blah.iff for environment, dds for textures, sht for shaders, etc :D

Just some notes on what seemed to be sticking points when I was adding Taanab...

First, leaving the starport in the wiped snapshot file... I had to delete the cell inside and create a new one with a new cellID, retaining the old one (from Yavin or Lok or whichever you used) caused problems...

You need to create a string/en/taanab_region_names.iff file (look at the other planet files in there) - to properly name your planet regions (so it doesn't just show the iff file or string name ingame). You then refer to this in the datatables/clientregion/taanab.iff.

Server-side, there is RegionNames.h file in which you can plug in the region name. Use the file name you created for an entry "@taanab_region_names:<region name>"

Working on adding Pandath, the main city, currently...

The ticket collector is finnicky... but I've put down a bluefrog, rebel recruiter, been attacked by sith shadows... have waypoints and an exploration badge working... working on getting some missions in... looks like the planet should be mostly populated with droids, robas, some domesticated animals, farmers, and I'll have to make a Norulac Raider NPC and faction... gonna try to make it greener, add farm-ish activities, and some patches of forest (I'm working off my old Essential guide to Planets and Moons...)

also trying to painstakingly take high orbit screenshots of the whole planet to generate a satellite map (like Sytner's for the other planets)... it defaulted to the Yavin planetary map when I tried it first, guess that's something left in the snapshot file, for now I've put a new one on the client side, just renamed Talus. They seem to have the same dimensions... so just gonna replace it with a homemade Taanab map soon. Lots of interesting spots on this map, have ideas for about five POIs so far.

So much to do...

Here are some 4k maps of an unaltered Taanab you can play with: download.

I'd be interested to see what people can come up with using this base and photoshop. That said I do feel it's a waste of time for now since this version of Taanab is very incomplete and low quality. A small group of people, including me, have been working on a proper version for a long time now (to be revealed in the fairly near future, here it is back in 2008 though when things were just getting started). So rather than rehashing the basics which were done many years ago, what would be really cool is to see people actually making assets for the planet - creatures, POIs, housing and so on.

Can confirm. :p

first off... damn... I've forgotten more than I learned since wrote this... I think...

Second, I probably omitted a bunch of stuff from my guide since it really was just a reprint of the notes I had taken along the way so I wouldn't forget stuff. Keep in mind that at the time, I was fully invested in this "goal" and some things had become intuitive, or rather second nature. The bits that did not seem intuitive I wrote down...

So... Incomplete... absolutely. but not hard to figure out the missing bits if you're fully into the modding mode. I've been out of the serious deep deep modding stuff for SWG for so long now that even if I wanted to re-do this, it'd take me more than a week to get back up to speed.

I spent 8 months modding for Farming Simulator 2013 & 15, making tractors, implents, etc... having a blast at the easier side of modding, and now I'm back into astronomy. :) in 30-40 days I'll be back in nature harvesting the 20' x 40' plot of wheat I planted, and threshing with the homemade threshing machine I made... I decided not to try and grow tobacco this year since it flopped last year, but I still have a garden to put in with my 5yo daughter that's always fun too.

I have many hobbies, SWG is just one of them.

Honestly, I'm waiting for a few more milestones (that are quite important to myself) to be knocked out by the EMU team before I pick it back up full time. although I am currently working on some custom asset models in LW & blender that I want to see in game eventually. so outside of my custom DL-88 blaster pistol, or my E-Web repeating blaster cannon, or my custom XD-1120 stock light freighter chassis, or various other 3d models I've started building, I'm not doing much on the code / hacking side of modding right now.

I'm true-noob, literally just starting out, teach myself as I go with almost no significant guides that lists steps. Most of what I've read so far seems to be for those of you who already know what you're doing and how to navigate around :( I've managed to get the hang of basic screenplays so far but nothing complicated. If I had examples to look at I could maybe make sense of it and that's about it.

Been really meaning to write some entry level guides, but I'm always so distracted or drowned in work.

If there is anything specific you want to know, or do, I can maybe throw you some pointers, be it on SWGEmu's irc (#modthegalaxy) or in your own thread here on MTG. Fairly busy these days though, so I'll apologize in advance for replying late/not going into too much detail an depth when answering.

Always happy to see new eager faces though! :)
