Any guides out there on how to setup the VM using Zonama?

I'm confused, never have done this before.. and I can't access the SWGEMU forums since I'm banned for spamming accounts, 5 years ago.

Also, any guides on how to set a server up on a VPS. I don't want to host this on my PC virtually.
Yo dawg, I heard you like virtual machines, so we put a virtual machine inside your virtual machine so you can be virtually running a machine in your virtual machine.

You cant run a VM in a VPS.   It's already a virtual server.

Hopefully has not mad at you for making fun of him! He might hack your PC and make a few thousand users on it!

Ok, I am getting a little bit frustrated. I have tried enabling drag & drop from host to guest, rebooting the vm as well as the machine, not getting anywhere as far as getting the TRE files moved over. Can someone please assist in some fashion? Tips? Tricks? Something that can give me an AH HA!! moment? Running oracle virtualbox version 5.0.16 r105871. Set up connection as NAT.

You don't need to drag/drop the .TRE files. You use the interface to point to the location they're housed:

example:

G:\

or

G:\StarWarsGalaxies\SWGEmu

try to make the path as detailed as possible, as it only seems to 'skim' the folder while searching... it doesn't seem to deep scan. If my .TRE files were in G:\SWG2\StarWarsGalaxies\SWGEmu and I told it to search G:\, it wont find them. Hope this helps!

Thanks Draychen - I had specified in the shared folders in the VM a folder on my desktop. But when you start up the repository vm, it automatically goes to getstaredfresh. Which wants me to copy the TRE files to the server. With ZonomaDev it isn't an issue, but it seems that for Lasko's repository, you have to copy the TREs to the VM. I'll try confiscating one of the wife's thumbdrives, but I am kind of an old school drag and drop kinda guy. I did it once before but I'll be a womp rat if I can remember how I did it..

Ah, apologies. I thought you were meaning from the fresh... I have no idea what to do with the MTG stuff. If you can figure it out, I'd love to know how ya did it! Also, even with the drag/drop enabled on mine, it doesn't work either. I had to enable clipboard across clients, create files one by one, and paste the text into them.

So, I've done a lot of reading up on this; It seems, from all I've read, the drag and drop functions do not work with a windows host. Only with a Linux host. The workaround for this, I've created a shared folder on my desktop. Whatever was done with the OS, it's not allowing guest images, so I haven't completely solved the problem. I am able to share the folder (create the folder on the desktop, changed the shared settings to all, add the .TRE files).

Went to devices > shared folders > shared folders and settings: Added the folder as a Make-Permanent.

The folder will show up under - Places > Vagrant > FolderName

If you check the properties, you'll see the used memory (in the amount of the .TRE files), but if you're at the same point I am: You wont be able to see the files. I believe, if I can find the correct iso, installing guest additions will solve this problem. Sorry, I'm super new at this stuff still, just throwing out my findings in hope it could help someone else.

Also: enabling 'Host to Guest' for the files and clipboards instead of 'bidirectional' has worked for some OS.

We definitely need some one to do a proper guide to this building the server using the mtg files etc using ZonomaDev
i have managed to use lasko's vm with vm player and the drag and drop does work for me windows 7 but when building it does fail i think this is due to merge needing c++11 compiler idk lol

So I was able use ZonomaDev, and when i get some time I will try and put some steps etc together.  But for now here's what you need to do:

1. Follow the ZonomaDev instructions.  Install as per.  Note it will use the original 14.1 tres.
2. After it is successfully set up and your happy that ZonomaDev is running properly, shut it down
3. When you launch the VM program, select the ZonomaDev server and edit the properties to allow you to use usb devices
4. launch ZonomaDev
5. Insert a usb mem stick that has all the MTG tres and other files on it into the machine
6. At the top of the server look through all the different drop downs till you find the one that will let you activate the usb mem stick.  Enable it.
7. replace the config.lua file with the one from MTG server
8. Replace the .tres with the MTG tres
9. rebuild the server

I believe this should get you to where there the MTG server would be if you were able to use the current VM.  You will still have to add in all the files from MTG and change all the objects.lua and serverobjects.lua (and the allobjects.lua) files.
I think what I did was I copied all the MMOCoreORB files (or maybe at a higher level) from the MTG server files downlloaded and saved on the usb stick and pasted them into the MMOCoreORB directory on the server but I DID NOT REPLACE.  That way it doesn't override any of the newer files needed to run properly.  Then you need to go through the different folders in...MMOCoreORB/bin/scripts and look for the, I guess I'll call them note files for lack of better word, from MTG that will tell you what you need to include in your  objects.lua, serverobjects.lua and the allobjects.lua files.  Make sure to check all the files, especially .../scripts/mobiles and .../scripts/objects and I believe the allobjects.lua is in the ../scripts/objects directory.  Once you do a few of these you will see the pattern.

Note, I did find there were a bunch that didn't work for me.  I made a list of ones that didn't work that I'll post here when I'm home.  A lot of the melee weapons didn't work and several of the mobs.  Someday when i have the time I intended to take a look and see if I could figure out how to get these working.

Also, there were a few houses that didn't fully work.  They don't have player house terminals in them.  I remember there was 3; think Yoda's hut, night sisters hut and a small hut that was like the NS one.  I made new files for these but broke my server :( If I make them again I'll share.

As I read through the list of stuff that didn't work, I'm positive the NS hut, Yoda Hut, and (I think it was a wookiee tree house) all didn't have structure management controls. You can, however use slash commands with the structures targeted and it'll work. As with the listed melee weapons: I can confirm that quite a few listed, I recall, didn't work as well.

Also, thank you so kindly for your above post with the information on starting the server. I'm bashing my head against it right now: I've added VBox guest additions and Oracle Virtual box extensions pack 5... but continuously get a error when trying to mount my thumb drive. If you could provide me with the extension pack version you used, or how to mount past the errors, I'd be much appreciated. Thanks again!

TBH I have no idea what you mean by the extension pack, I'm still very noob.

Basically I followed all the instructions in https://github.com/lordkator/ZonamaDev
I'm using Oracle VM Virtual Box 5.0.2 I think.  So to mount:

1. Open Oracle VM Virtual Box
2. Select the server in the box on the right
3. Select the settings (gear icon) on the top
4. select "USB"
5. Tick off the "Enable USB controler box
6. Select the radial USB 1.1 (OHCI) controler [note: the others would not work for me].  Also, I don't believe I clicked the add or anything, simply just selected it

Then start your sever's VM and wait for it to fully boot up.  After the VM loads:

1. insert your USB stick into your computer
2. at the very, very top left select "devices" and in the drop-down select "USB"
3. your memory stick should appear in a sub table to the right.  Tick off the space beside (in front) of it to enable it

One thought: I also went into Devices -> shared clip board and ticked off "Bidirectional" and Devices -> Drag and Drop and ticked off "Bidirectional".  Perhaps this is required?

Anyway, if you know how I can get my extension pack version post here and I'll take a look for it.

EDIT: Was able to confirm that I'm using version 5.0.20

Thanks so much! Unfortunately the usb still wont mount. The reason I added the extensions etc prior was: I kept getting a error trying to mount things on a Win 10 host to the Oracle VM. In order to fix that, I had to download Oracle Entensions dist. 5 from https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads. To mount that;

From the oracle VM manager go File > Preferences > Extensions > Add New Package.

Just search for the package and upload, it'll go through an install prompt. Once finished, your extensions are good. This is SUPPOSED to allow you to drag and drop from hot > guest and vice-versa... but it doesn't seem to work properly.

The next step is to add the VBoxGuestAdditions_5.0.20 (same site for DL). This one is a bit more complicated. First you need to add an optical drive for mounting. This has to be done through the VBox Manager as previous.

Settings > Storage > Add New Storage Attachment > Add New Optical Drive > Leave Empty

Launch your server.

Right Click the downloaded (I generally place it on my desktop for simplicity) VBoxGuestAdditions_5.0.20 iso and choose mount

In oracle choose:

Devices > Insert Guest Additions CD Image. It'll appear on the desktop as a CD. Double click the image to open the folders. Right click anywhere between the file images and choose 'Open Terminal Here'

Under the prompt you'll type: sudo sh /media/cdrom/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run  any of the other lines, you'll get an error and an abort since we're not a 'root user' we don't have authorization or something along those lines.

Wait for the install and the prompt to reboot. After this, you're finished with guest additions and all the extensions to current.

I just had a thought: what if you hosted your .tre files on something like MEGAsync then downloaded them with the Chrome that's on the VM?

Hmmm, that is absolutely brilliant! I'll try (7zip might be the problem though. I think there's a Linux version). Yes, absolutely brilliant, my friend!

any chance if you have done the parts with the object.lua etc and the folders needed any chance you could upload them all to say mega in one file so we only have to drop them into the server

Had that same thought, however the VM will not open Mega.

Odd.  I just tried it from the Chrome in the VM and it seemed to work fine for me.
