Possibility to add more music

I was browsing some of the music mods made for nge recently and found a few tracks that would be very cool to have ingame alongside the existing music. However, the only way I know to install them would be to replace what's already there.

I tried simply naming the music files to what would be next in line to the others, but that didn't work.

I've got the download for it

Music is controlled in the datatables. If you find the correct table you can make it play any piece of music regardless of its file name.

You should be able to find most of this stuff in datatables>environment using TRE Explorer. Keep in mind these links in the datatables are links to the .snd files. These .snd files then link to the mp3 or wav. You'll have to create an snd file as well, you can't just link the mp3 in the datatable.

I may be wrong, I am a little rusty right now, but I'm pretty sure I've got most of that right. :)

Yeah, I talked with Uli about it and he explained how most of the snd file works, and I attempted to insert more tracks that I have added, but whenever something happens in game that would trigger a modified .snd file (sunset for example), I get a crash.

Hmm, well I've not really worked with the snd files, but the one tip I can give is make sure you're not using files from NGE with pre-cu and vice versa. I doubt you are and I don't know if the snd files have had big changes or not, but this is often a source of crashes.

Other than that all I can assume is something else is wrong in the file, check your crash logs as they often give just enough information for you to figure things out.

What Tonberry says is true, 99% of the time a crash is caused by a mistake in file editing. I experimented with adding sounds in exactly the same way you are quite a while ago with success. All I can say (from memory so may not be accurate) is make sure there is a nullbyte separator between pointers to file locations e.g. music/whatever_something_blah.mp3 00 music/something_new_from_you.mp3 00

Also make sure if there is a counter in the file (which I seem to recall there is) to change it when you add (or remove) files, look for a hex code like this (if it was pointing to 4 files) "00 00 00 04" and change it to however many files there are now, remembering to keep to hex numbering conventions (0A for 10).

Let us know how it goes :) Good luck!

Hm.. I did the counter, and I'm pretty sure the separator as well. I'll take another look at it

Tried again, with no luck. No crash this time (didn't play with it for too long), but the music I added still doesn't play when it should. Do you still have copies of the .snd files you edited, Davin? If so, I'd like to take a look at them, because I have no idea what I would be doing differently.

It's possible to add the missing tracks added for the CU/NGE (not sure which), because I'm using them right now.

Basically it adds more combat tracks (dozens) thus more room if you want to edit/change/replace those tracks.

Adding NEW room for tracks that aren't in any SWG version, I have no idea as I've never tried doing so even though I wanted to try, I'll probably take a look once I'm done with the rest of my mods.

Yes it's almost 2022... but I want to change the intro music and basically any music that will cause YouTube to say copyright strike. I tried the music folder but it didn't work
