For a long while after NGE launch, the space toolbar was misaligned and broken on resize (ability icons would get lost), it also had an excessively large back pane, from where it looked as though they had used the same code as the NGE ground toolbar (Big icon remnants.) I made a big ranty post about it on the forum (among other things), and ended up getting a PM about it.

During that time I had gone through all the UI code and realigned everything, minimized a lot of excess and fix some minor issues that went mostly unnoticed by everyone but me. I had also worked on a prototype movable buff window, in an attempt to fix the massive amount of buffs they were displaying under the HAM bars.

This was the prototype I did for the NGE/Pre-NGE UI switching I mentioned earlier. Was a simple idea. All they had to do was do a couple quick texture tweaks and minor code changes, and the new UI could overlay the old, making both available without having to leave the game.

That was interesting Anach, thanks for clearing that up.
Yeah I see it now, your version of the NGE style HAM window fits much better on the old transparent window, and that buff window restored is cute lol.

It's weird, you restored the Pre-NGE UI, you even got the old buff window working again, I made the Post-NGE UI, removed the buff window and placed them under your HAM, some people would think I'm a demon or something.

(Couldn't respond earlier because my internet has been failing for two days, it's pretty bad the connection is unstable as hell.)

You are devil incarnate. :p The NGE UI makes me want to poke my eyes out with needles. However, you did a great job getting it to work with the old system. When you first asked me for advice on the old swgemu forum, I didn't actually expect you to go through with it, as I used to get similar questions quite often, and most didn't go further after finding out how much work it was.

Yeah I probably am lol, at least that's how I felt when I was working on it.

Wow I don't even remember asking you for advice, was that at the time you first posted your SWGEmu UI Tweaks?
If so I remember asking you if Anach = Anarch (which turned out to be a completely different person lol) and that you were going to be of great help since you already knew the UI like the back of your hand, but then you disappeared. :p

Well I'm the maniac around here :D, my determination was pretty high and I know my next idea will get just as much dedication.

Do you still mod in general? It doesn't have to be SWG related, I know I've been modding on other games as well, but I always came back to SWG, the attraction is just too grand.

(Hurray for stable internet, may it last.)

Sweet deal Kay. You took what we started and you truly put it together. I never dreamed that you would actually finish this bad boy.

It looks great, im even downloading SWGEmu again right now just to check it out in all its glory. Thanks for your hard work, dedication, and effort in making this a reality for those of us who wanted to see this happen.

On a side note, thanks for the props lol, it brought me back down memory lane :D we should get back into modding again and get a project going!

Woot, finally back, it didn't take as long as I thought.

@Vlock: Good to see you there :), yeah those were good times, now we can't forget them.
Thanks for the kind words, I know it's small and it's not something everybody wants but it's there for those who do, it's all that matters.

I'm surprised of you asking to get back into modding, I thought you said you quit after only modding for SWG live. Anyway that's good news and I'm looking forward to it, if you have any ideas don't hesitate to share them. :p

I've been thinking about that completely new looking interface I always said I would work on once I finished the other UI mods and I've been gathering ideas here and there, I know of the limitations, you can't really change the mechanics without heavy client editing which is beyond my current abilities sadly, but giving the interface a totally new feel is easy enough.

Anybody follows TOR around here?
Not that the game looks appealing to me or anything, I still can't get around the design they chose to give that game, the shitty animations etc, it's beyond weird but I read their latest blogs on development and came across the one on the user interface which was really interesting.

I like some of the design and I already started drawing and putting together a mix of what I thought would fit in SWG, a simple and modern looking interface which screams SciFi and can be clear enough for everyone.

It's still an idea, I know if I started another big mod I would have to get to it and not drag it around like I did for the previous one, but gah I hate planning lol.

Anyways, I wrote another wall, can't help myself.

You know what's funny? I read that blog a week ago and was considering posting it here as a suggestion for a new UI :p

It looks really streamlined and I must applaud Bioware for designing that, hopefully we can take some elements from it and incorporate it into a new UI.

EDIT: The quote box really needs a border. It's hard to tell where the quote ends and the reply begins. Is this just my computer or is someone else experiencing this problem?

Great minds think alike. :p We are great minds right?

I was interested by those three, first one because the edges are round and it makes the HAM/Toolbar/Exp bar part of a whole, and it doesn't look too agressive on the eye.

Second one because it's slim, every part of the interface is merged to the bottom of the screen, the UI has a nice shape and keeps the middle and top of the screen free to appreciate the ingame world (the chat window could be incorporated to the whole thing as well).

Third one which resembles the second interface, quite bigger but I like the design.

Also, I kinda like how the windows are shaped, a good looking texture with a front and a back window etc, their designs gives quite a few ideas to ponder about.

By far the best design they've come up with. When I saw that entry on the site it was an interesting read, but then to see we'd be stuck with some minimalistic blue crap that they currently have, its safe to say I'm incredibly disapointed.

None of the designs look particularly bad, is it too much to ask for a toggle between them all? I always have my expectations from Bioware very high and they never disapoint, but I really doubt we're going to get that option, although I believe they do plan to encourage UI development how blizzard have, in which case I'll probably make that awesome design work in-game before I even start playing lol.

When you look at the game design, the interface itself isn't so bad, of course some of the designs are quite awful like this one.

Lol seriously?

I assume the blue one you're talking about is this one.

Too shiny and transparent imo, they should have stuck with this one instead.

I agree they should let people pick the interface they want, it's not like it's hard to do, but imposing the latest one to everyone after they showed the players the previous designs is unfair.

I don't know if they're going to "encourage" modding, be it interface only, if they impose one design to begin with.
After the semi disappointment that DAII was, the toolset that hasn't been released and probably never will, I wonder what they're trying to do if not piss off the modding community (oh yes they are).
In the end it doesn't matter, third party tools are already flowing, official toolset or not.

I know nothing about WoW UI modding but I know the community is quite active, I know about Everquest though, I wish SOE would've used the same system for SWG to make modding easier for everyone, with the tools etc.

Once again, the community will always find a way.

By the way Hi, I hear you've been busy, I won't ask I know it's "top secret".

EDIT:

Oh yeah I forgot, the Wookiee style UI they posted on April's fools is neat. :D

Agreed, still like the dark design best. WoW UI is written in LUA. I'd be very suprised if they base it on something else in tor, in fact I'm sure I remember reading about it being LUA, then again I might be imagining it lol. :p

Didn't notice that it had already hit 200!
I wish each and everyone of them who downloaded the mods would post to give their feedback on how to improve them, but they'll probably remain silent. :-/

It's probably because NGE is serious business and always will be.

Did you point the installer to the SWGEmu root?
Do you use any other mod and if so which one(s)?
Can you post what the crash log says if it says anything? (crash log located in the same folder as SWGEmu.exe)

stumbled across the forum and your NGE UI mod today - great work! *thumbs up*

Was immediately feeling like home after logging in with the mod enabled. Everything looked familiar and a little bit more colored than the preCU interface (never played anything else than the NGE, but i guess I can adopt the preCU game.)

Somehow it seems there is a small bug in the NGE UI mod (in the CU UI mod too), not sure how to fix it myself, so I'm asking the author. *g*

Bug description: If i try to type an opening or closing round bracket - ( or ) - the cursor in chat window moves on, but it's not showing the ( or ) character there. When sending the line with the enter key, it's neither showed in the chat window nor in the chat bubble on clients that have the NGE UI mod installed. Same for the ingame notepad or gmail window - all characters from standard keyboard, even the german umlauts, show up. Except the opening and closing round bracket.

On "clean" installations the ( or ) written in chat or gmail do show up.

So I guess it's something in the mod (no other mods installed here). Is there any way to fix it myself (if you can point me to the file I might have to change :)), or can you have a look at it please, if possible? Thanks!

Fantastic mod. Absolutely love it. Don't get me wrong i dig pre-cu swg but I'm an npg baby, hadn't even heard about swg before 07 and I was missing the 'prettified' npg UI, thank you so much for your hard work, works without any probs so far.

I have the same issue, any ideas for a workaround or a fix?

Hey guys, if kayliaah doesn't respond by the time I get home (in the next few days) I'll have a look into it myself :)

Any ideas on a workaround for this issue yet? It's no biggie i've kinda gotten used to it now but still would be good if this could be fixed somehow. thanks :)

Found a workaround.
Disabling the 'Target Status' option when installing seems to fix the bracket issue.
