Hellow.
I miss the "old days".

How's everybody?

Random topic I know, but I've been away for so long, it was hard to post here believe it or not, just wanted to know how everybody has been since I last logged in, how life goes on etc..

I wish I could go back to at least 3 years ago to re-experience everything again, because I hate endings, it just sucks.

Anyways, I wish this website and community to last at least until the end of the world.

Regards, Kay.

I sure as hell am glad you're back.

There has to be no end, it might not be the same as the past 3 years, but new experiences are just waiting to be grabbed.

Life's interesting, ever changing and progressing. I don't know what will happen in a week from now, this year has been so full of constant surprises. It's definitely been eventful.

I'll say one thing though, YES to the weather here.

Also, sunsets.

P.S. End of the world is near, North Korea is gonna be the death of us all. All hail the Great Leader.

No E3? Thought you said you might go.

I might be going, just gotta hit up some connections, still debating. It's practically 20 mins from where I live, rofl.

E3 fell through so rescheduled for Prime instead. Will be there with a LoL News site so will probably be around the LoL booth more then anywhere else and hanging out and making connections.

Prime is East Coast right? You won't have to fly that long then, but cool, cool.

I don't even know about E3, last week has brought about so much change and reevaluation that I might actually delay my main school for a term or not, but skip community college and go back to the EU for 6-12 months startin July, gotta look into some Universities in Spain, the UK and France, don't really want to go back to Germany.

I'd most likely go back to the US then, but things are so open right now, it's kind of interesting.

Ya never know what life and the next day might bring, regardless of that, always gotta adjust and figure out the best way to adapt and maybe even see the upside of it.

Prime is West, I will be flying for like 12 hours total from Newcastle to Paris then to Seattle.

University has a lot of pressure on me atm and there is a lot going on right now I'm unsure how things are going to go but I want to get everything out the way so I can take a break.

And actually planning to move to the US within the next couple of years which is going to be a difficult and draining process I think, there is so much I need to work out now and so much pressure from a bunch of things really want to just take a week break but I can't until get everything Uni related out the way.

Too much going on right now.

Oh yeah I just checked, Seattle.

Have you been to the US before? I usually fly through London.

I can totally feel ya about lack of time for shit and needing a breather, it's not that bad atm and I ain't even in school yet, but once I will be, my God, I don't even want to think about it, they're not the typical 'hihi party time' schools.

Where are you aiming to land in the US? Work or school related? Life in general?

Yeah the whole process of figuring everything out can be quite daunting, it still is for me, especially now having to rethink EVERYTHING with a crazy number of new added factors, I've barely slept in a week and my brain won't shut the fuck up, rofl. Gotta make my mind up my May 1st for what happens to me in Fall for the most part, at least if I'd stay in the US, I can still do EU and drop the US 6-12 months US plan before the actual school, but there is so much uncertainty about where the hell I'll stay or what's gonna go on, just, ugh!

Well if you got any questions with any 'moving to the US' onslaught of question marks, let me know, I can probably answer quite a few by now, been only doing this since I've been 16. :p

Last time I was in the US was quite a few years ago and went through London to Florida. The Newcastle to Paris to Seattle is shorter and cheaper then Newcastle to London to Seattle though feel the transfer will be easier in London.

If I move to the US will be to work, could extend my education there but my current education is good enough (well when I finish it then it should be good enough) its just getting experience and getting hired will be pretty difficult.

Mainly will be looking at CA for working but will obviously look at else where as well.

Ah, shorter and cheaper, that's gewd, I guess it's different when you're in the UK, from Germany it's nearly always Heathrow, only flew over Paris two times I think. I think Paris is more likely from Munich, Berlin is UK only, or was at least from Tegel.

De Gaulle is pretty big though, so if you're other terminal is half way across the airport and you don't got enough down time, it's a hassle.

You gonna try to land a gig at one of the game studio's here? Well anything CA related has awesome weather, if it's more Santa Monica, it ain't really too hot either, just really nice. Education is expensive here, so I'd only get it if you'd really need it. When are you finished in the UK?

Well if you do land in CA eventually, keep in touch, I'll most likely will be pretty settled at that point unless I go to the EU for a bit this and next year. I mainly know movie people, but ya never know. Any CA related questions though, I can most likely answer.

Also, you'll need a car, there is no living in CA without a car, rofl, so if you don't got a license already, get one asap in advance, you'll want to be able to drive right off the bat, after 3 months you'll need to do the CA drivers license shenanigans, but it's fairly easy, I got my practical tomorrow actually, cheap too.

I get my bachelors of science this year (If I pass my modules) and next year is the honours degree.

Yeah will probably try land a job at a game studio, it will be super tough because the whole "lack of experience" but there might be a few other jobs other then programming I might want to get into over there unsure will have to see, main thing I will probably do is find a place where i can get a QA position and then work up into a programming position.

Well you still have time to think about everything then.

Yeah I've read that people comin out of programming uni's totally lack 'practical experience' in terms of what actual development is, where sometimes they'd totally reteach the people how to think and write code. Might be wise to get into some bigger projects on the side or shit to show off, I don't know, totally not my field.

From QA up to programming is probably a decent idea, get the foot in the door and then see from there. Connections is everything too, in the end, unless you make a name for yourself fairly fast.

Actually my University right now one of our modules is "Professional Project" in which we get given Manager/Designer/Artists/Programmers and create a project together to attempt to teach us working in a somewhat large project. Yeah programming got to be modular and object orientated and you need to be able to work in someone else framework and my Uni tries it best to teach people in this manner.

Difficult to find projects to take part in but yeah need to try get as much experience as I can. I always do my own little projects over summer unsure what I will be doing for this summer.

That's good that they have that, total fail when school doesn't actually prepare you for the specific industry, it's the same with design schools, especially when it comes to concept art, most are oblivious to actually teaching to sell yourself and how to play the industry game as well, how to work in teams, etc.

Maybe try to do projects with at least one other programmer this summer then, one more step into getting more used to with other peoples code.

Story of my life. I miss the old days too.

Anyway it's nice to see I'm not the only one around here being crushed by stress. It's that time of year again when all the coursework is due in and I've slacked off until the last minute as usual, after convincing myself I'd stay ahead of everything this year. :p

Well the good news for me is this will be my last year. It turns out picking a foundation course with the optional top up to honours in order to avoid moving away was a good choice.

I decided to just finish up this year and call it quits, but at least I still come out with some form of degree instead of just being a typical dropout. At the end of the day the area I want to break into doesn't really hold degrees to a high value so it was the education I signed up for overall, the degree just being a bonus. On top of that finishing after 2 years means I skip out on more debt. :)

Over the last few months of the course I started feeling a bit fed up with myself just putting things off and wasting time so I'm pretty much decided that it's time to get out there instead of just screwing around. Already keeping an eye out for junior web design/development positions as well as considering just doing a bit of freelancing again for a while or possibly even starting up a business at some point in the near future.

Since everyone seems to have just as much if not more going on with their lives I wish you all the best of luck in those endeavors!

Just finished working on an app for a local client and now I have to go sort out a ton of the coursework side of it which is due in early next week. Also got a team development project going on to get us used to agile development and I got forced into being the scrum master. Yay... :(

4 weeks, 4 courseworks.

Serious Crunchtime.

2 are pretty much complete just need report
2 haven't been started but one is where I pretty much been given the framework and just need to do game logic and the other I'm very efficient in coding.

So should be good, was tempting to leave this year but I'm going to stick out my honours year.

Only 3 courseworks left for me. One for WBL which is just the report left now then that scrum team project I mentioned and lastly an iphone app which will no doubt be the worst. I can't stand Xcode or objective C.

Because of some stuff that happened earlier this year we have a brief extension on the iphone project so I think that is due in just over a month. Even so I haven't even started on it. More or less the same for the scrum stuff, with WBL being due so soon I haven't been able to give it any attention yet.

Serious crunchtime indeed... Gotta hate this time of year. Even though I'll have to start thinking about work after all this you can bloody well bet I'll be relaxing through the summer lol.
