Improved bazaar search

I would like to request a 3rd-party program for the game that makes shopping in SWG easier. If it is possible, the idea is that the program would pull the same info as the bazaar from the server, but then present it with text-search and multiple "sort-by" features. Bonus if you can make it so that a purchase can be made within the program. Simple concept, not sure if it's simple to execute...

Might probably be possible to catch the information, that's a no on being able to buy through it.

Still, it's highly questionable in terms of 'ethics'.

Edit: It should probably be done properly over a SUI, but that would put load on the server.

What is unethical about having a better search engine than the bazaar? The only real difference would be less time spent searching for what you want to by. I see that as nothing but a win.

As it turns out, too, the original development team did not have the exposure to the high quality of search engines for goods like we have now. For example, Ebay, Amazon, and Google search were still just as archaic as the bazaar is during the development of the game.

I see this as nothing but a time saver and a headache remover, I can't even fathom how this is an unfair or exploitative advantage.

It can be unfair/prove an advantage, as you can access it from anywhere, externally, without having your character actually be there.

It should really be done either through hard dll injection to overhaul the CUI interface, or done via server UI, but I'm unsure how taxing that might turn out to be, for the server.

I guess that all depends on how the information is gathered. If it is necessary to flip through the bazaar pages to generate the info, then there is no advantages that way...

At any rate, I lack the programming ability myself for this, and I've yet to see anything similar. I hope someone gets inspired to make such a program.

That would be quite difficult and open the server up to all sorts of vulnerabilities. I wouldn't recommend it at all.

Well, is it possible to mod the system within the game to have better search options?

You would need to write a search system for the bazaar. Then you would need to modify the UI windows to include that feature. Many others have attempted things like this in the past and have never really been successful. But if you want to do it and open source it, power to you!

Best way to do this is new client that you can import new functions into as need-be
